Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the factors related to the COVID-19 vaccination status in children under 18 years of age according to the ENAHO 2022 survey. It was framed within a quantitative approach, oriented to statistical analysis, as a modality it was oriented towards a descriptive research under a non-experimental design. The target population was made up of all Peruvians under the age of 18 who resided in the country during the year 2022. Those minors belonging to households that participated in the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the same year were considered. The results show that more than 60% of the minors included in the sample had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which shows significant progress in vaccination coverage in this age group. However, it is important to analyze the sociodemographic and economic characteristics associated with unvaccinated minors to identify possible barriers to access or acceptance of vaccines. Regarding the relationship between vaccination and sex, it was identified that 52% of the population were men, of which 33% received the vaccine and 19% did not. For their part, 48% were women, 31% agreed to immunization, and 17% were not vaccinated. Therefore, the differences between boys and girls were minimal, indicating that gender is not a determining factor in the probability of immunization. In conclusion, it was evident that one of the determining factors identified is the socioeconomic level of the home. The data shows that minors from households in poverty are less likely to be fully vaccinated compared to those from households with higher incomes. This could be explained by economic barriers that make access to vaccination centers difficult, as well as a lower availability of reliable information in vulnerable communities.
